In the first years of football I understand that it was considered ‘cheating’ to have a coach. Also of great interest is the tradition of Christian prayer before and after, not doubt needed even more in 1905 when (was it 18) Collegiate players were killed. Prayer has persisted as a tradition even though the game has become safer (at some levels) training not withstanding rules and penalties were an important. Right now American Football is under attack. Ref High School Coach Joe Kennedy being removed from the field for praying on the field. I think it would go a long way to have a piece written about the tradition of prayer in American Football.
